VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CONVERSION TYPE-A SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH PLUNGER/SOCKET POSITIVE DOOR OPENERS ON SINGLE REAR EMERGENCY DOORS. THESE BUSES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 217, "BUS WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE." Consequence Summary:
IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, SMALL CHILDREN MAY HAVE DIFFICULTY IN OPENING THE DOOR, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE PLUNGER/SOCKET TYPE DOOR OPENER AND REPLACE IT WITH A TELESCOPIC PROP DOOR OPENER. Recall Notes:
OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 10, 2000.
