Corrective Summary:
REPLACE STEERING ARM WITH A REDESIGNED STRENGTHENED ARM.

UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE STEERING GEAR MAY DEVELOP CRACKS AT A LOCATION BETWEEN THE GEAR AND THE PITMAN ARM MOUNTING. THE SUSPECT COMPONENT IS FOUND ON STEERING GEARS WITH THE CODE 05057. CONTINUED OPERATION MAY RESULT IN FRACTURE AND DISCONNECTION OF THE STEERING LINKAGE.

Corrective Summary:
THE DEALER WILL REMOVE ORIGINAL OUTPUT SHAFT FROM STEERING GEAR AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW CASE-HARDENED SHAFT FREE OF CHARGE.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 9000 LB FRONT AXLE.SYSTEM: STEERING SYSTEM; STEERING GEAR OUTPUT SHAFT.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE PITMAN ARM TRANSMITS STEERING MOVEMENTS FROM THESTEERING GEAR TO THE STEERING LINKAGES. IF CRACKS DEVELOP IN THE OUTPUT SHAFTOF THE STEERING GEAR, AND THE SHAFT BREAKS, THE PITMAN ARM WILL DETACH ANDSTEERING CONTROL WILL BE LOST. LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT CANRESULT.

THE BRAKE FLUID LINES WHICH RUN TO AND FROM THE FRAME MOUNTED POWER ASSIST UNIT MAY BE INCORRECTLY ROUTED RESULTING IN THE LINES RUBBING OR CHAFING ON A FENDER SPLASH SHIELD BRACKET.

Corrective Summary:
ALL VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, THE BRAKE LINES WILL BE REPOSITIONED TO PROVIDE CLEARANCE TO THE SPLASH SHIELD BRACKET AT NO CHARGE TO OWNERS.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH SINGLE SYSTEM HYDRAULICBRAKES.SYSTEM: SERVICE BRAKES; HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE LINE TO RUB THROUGH,ALLOWING BRAKE FLUID LOSS AND COMPLETE LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKES. THIS CAN CAUSE AVEHICLE ACCIDENT WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
