Defect Summary:
THE METAL STIFFENER AT THE REAR OF THE SPLASH SHIELD MAY BECOME BENT DURING SERVICING OR BY ABUSE. THIS CAN ALLOW THE SPLASH SHIELD AND STIFFENER OR ONE OF ITS ATTACHING BOLTS TO RUB AGAINST AND CUT THE STEERING SHAFT.

Corrective Summary:
THE SPLASH SHIELD STIFFENER WILL BE REMOVED AND THE STEERING SHAFT WILL BE REPLACED, IF DAMAGED.

Recall Notes:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY TRUCKS.SYSTEM: STRUCTURE; SPLASH SHIELD STIFFENER.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: PROLONGED CONTACT MAY SEVER THE STEERING SHAFT,RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND, POSSIBLY, AN ACCIDENT.

IN THE INVOLVED VEHICLES, THE AIR PRESSURE WHICH IS USED TO ACTUATE THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN SOLENOID MAY BE BLOCKED WHENEVER TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE EXCEEDS 250 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

Corrective Summary:
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND MODIFY THE AIR PLUMBING AS REQUIRED.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND DETROITDIESEL ENGINES.SYSTEM: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SHUTTHE ENGINE OFF IN THE EVENT OF AN ENGINE RUNAWAY, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLEACCIDENT.
