T. Marzetti Co. Recalls 12 Oz Bottles of Salad Dressing Due to Undeclared Anchovies

Columbus, OH - January 15, 2003 -- T. Marzetti Company of Columbus, Ohio is recalling their 12 oz bottles of "Two-Lightful Caesar" dressing, which may be mislabeled as "Two-Lightful Blue Cheese" dressing. The bottles labeled as "Two-Lightful Blue Cheese" dressing contains powdered anchovies, which is not declared on the product labels. People who have an allergy to anchovy fish run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The bottles were shipped in 1,065 cases labeled as "Two-Lightful Caesar Dressing" and distributed to retail supermarkets located nationwide.

The product is packaged in 8-inch tall glass bottles identified as T. Marzetti's Two-Lightful Blue Cheese dressing, and is found in the Refrigerated Dressings section of the Produce Department. The UPC number is 70200-51018, and it has the expiration date "08/03/03W" stamped on the glass bottles.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered the Caesar dressing was distributed in packaging identified as Blue Cheese, which does not reveal the presence of anchovies. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the packaging process.

Consumers who have purchased the mislabeled Two-lightful Caesar dressing should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (614) 846-2232, and ask for Consumer Relations.
