Swatt Baking Company Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in Salt Rising Bread

Swatt Baking Company of Olean, New York, April 10, 2003, is recalling 16-oz. loaves of Salt Rising Bread because it may contain undeclared milk protein. People who have allergies to milk protein may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recalled 16-oz. loaves of Salt Rising Bread, coded sell by 12-18 (2002), were sold through retail stores and direct delivery in Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the presence of undeclared milk protein in Salt Rising Bread in packages which did not declare a milk ingredient on the label. Subsequent investigation revealed a printing error on the package.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased Salt Rising Bread should return it to the place of purchase.
