Staples Announces Voluntary Recall Of Pistachio Product

Framingham, MA -- April 17, 2009 --- Due to the expanded recall activities for pistachios distributed by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. (Terra Bella, California), Staples today announced that it is voluntarily recalling its Crunch Time™ pistachio product as a precautionary measure because of the potential for Salmonella contamination. Setton Pistachio is a provider for Staples’ supplier, Nassau Candy of Hicksville, New York.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Staples is committed to the highest standards of product quality. On April 9, the company became aware that the expanded recall of pistachios could affect its Crunch Time™ product and immediately notified its retail stores to remove the product from store shelves.

The recalled product was distributed nationwide through Staples’ retail stores. Specific product information, including SKU Number, Pack Size/Weight, Packaging Type, and Best By Date Range, can be found in detail in the chart below.

All retail customers who have purchased the item listed above should not consume this product and should return it to the store of purchase for a full refund.
