Maribel's Sweets Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in "Aztec Hot Chocolate"

New York - March 27, 2003 -- Maribel Sweets, Inc. of New York is recalling its 20 oz and 10 oz package of "Aztec Hot Chocolate" because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "Aztec Hot Chocolate" was distributed nationwide through mail orders and our retail stores. The product comes in a 10 oz and 20 oz square tin.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes. Production of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased 10 oz and 20 oz tins of "Aztec Hot Chocolate" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-866-925-8800.
