King Richard's Snacks, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on "King Richard Walnut Pound Cake" Because of Undeclared Milk Protein

Mount Vernon, NY - April 15, 2003 -- King Richard's Snacks, Inc., Mount Vernon, NY is recalling its 5 ounce packages of "King Richard Walnut Pound Cake" because it may contain undeclared milk protein. People who have allergies to milk protein run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "King Richard Walnut Pound Cake" was distributed to retail stores in New York State. This product comes in an uncoded 5-ounce cellophane package marked with CT License #8595. Distribution of this product has been suspended until new labels are issued stating the proper ingredients.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets' food inspectors, that the milk protein-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal its presence.

Consumers who have purchased 5-ounce packages of "King Richard Walnut Pound Cake" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-914-668-9233.
