Innova Nutrition Recalls Certain Diabeteze Bars Because Of Possible Health Risk

Mill Creek, WA -- February 18, 2009 --- Innova Nutrition of Mill Creek, WA is recalling Diabeteze bars with a best buy date of 12/14/08, 12/19/08 and 12/20/08, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Diabeteze chocolate peanut butter bars were distributed in northwest Costco warehouses in Washington and Oregon.

The bars are sold in boxes of 12/1.5oz bars with blue packaging. The UPC code is 8 50540 00112 4. Only bars with the best buy dates of 12/14/08, 12/19/08, and 12/20/08 are affected.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut pieces in the bar were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America’s Georgia Plant. Innova Nutrition has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Any Diabeteze Bars with a best buy date of 12/14/08, 12/19/08, and 12/20/08 should be returned to any Costco for a refund. For additional information, please visit the Diabeteze website
