GH Foods CA Initiates Voluntary Recall of Products That Contain Yellow Onions

- July 27, 2012 - GH Foods CA, LLC, is initiating a voluntary recall of various products containing yellow onions distributed to retail supermarkets. The products were manufactured using onions recalled by Gills Onions because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
A list of the brands, products and states is provided at the end of this release. No other GH Foods CA products or code dates are affected by this recall. The company is cooperating with the FDA. Products are packaged in plastic containers and/or film overwrapped trays with code dates printed on the front or back label.
There have been no reported illnesses attributed to the recalled items. GH Foods CA is issuing this voluntary recall linked to Gills Onions expanded recall to minimize risk to the public health.
The company has directly notified all customers who received the recalled product and requested removal from store shelves.
Anyone who has the recalled product in their possession should not consume it and should destroy or discard it. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-888-449-9386 anytime twenty-four hours, seven days a week.
