Best Maid Cookie Company, Inc: Expired Peanut-containing Cookie Products from 2007-----Affected by Peanut Recall -- If Any Remain, Consumers Should Destroy

February 10, 2009 -- River Falls, WI – Best Maid Cookie Company, Inc. is voluntarily alerting consumers that certain expired Monster and Peanut Butter Peanut dough and cookie products sold between October 2007 and November 2007 are being recalled. The Julian dates affected are 07285 through 07310.

We have initiated the voluntary recall in response to an expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA’s expanded recall now included all peanuts and peanut-related products from PCA’s Blakely, Georgia, plant from January 2007 to present. The FDA is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella targeted at PCA’s Blakely plant.

Any product with a Julian date of 07311 or later is safe for consumption. The Julian date can be found on the master shipping case label. Consumers who may still have these products may return affected product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. Best Maid Cookie is issuing this consumer alert out of an abundance of caution, even though it is highly unlikely any of these products from 2007 remain in consumers’ possession.

NO other Branded Best Maid Cookie Company products are impacted by the recall.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. Best Maid Cookie Company, Inc. has not received any consumer illness complaints associated with its products. However, we are taking precautionary steps, including removing the impacted products from retail shelves and the entire distribution system.
