Aspen Hills, Inc. Announces EXPANDED Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Frozen Cookie Dough Products Containing Peanuts Due to Possible Health Risk

GARNER, Iowa, February 18, 2009 --- Aspen Hills, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain frozen cookie dough products that contain peanuts, because the peanuts used to make the cookie dough were supplied by Peanut Corporation of America and may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The following brand names and flavors, with codes printed on the container, are included in the recall. Distribution was nationwide to Aspen Hills, Inc. fund-raising customers, which occurred September 23, 2008 through December 13, 2008:

  • Baker Jo’s box – Pre-Portioned Peanut Butter with Chocolate Chunks – 08282
  • Baker Jo’s pail – Peanut Butter with Chocolate Chunks – 08269, 08288, 08295, 08302, 08309, 08317, 08324, 08337
  • Gourmet Cookie Dough JT Ent pail – Peanut Butter with Chocolate Chunks – 08269, 08288, 08295, 08317
  • Arizona Gold pail- Peanut Butter with Chocolate Chunks – 08269, 08295, 08302, 08309, 08317, 08324, 08337

The recalled product comes in a 3 lb., white, poly pail used in a scoop-and-bake process, and a 3 lb., white, corrugated box used for pre-portioned frozen cookies in a bake-and-serve process.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with Aspen Hills, Inc. cookie dough.

No other brand names or flavors, produced by Aspen Hills, Inc., are included in this recall.
